MaltaPost is pleased to announce the winners of its -Photography Competition ‘Post in Pictures'. This was organised to coincide with World Post Day which is celebrated annually on October 9. This day serves to recognise the work done by the Post and the role it has in people's everyday lives.
The top 9 entries were exhibited at the Malta Postal Museum at 135, Archbishop Street, Valletta during the ‘Science in the City' and ‘Notte Bianca' weekend and remained so in the days leading up to World Post Day.
The competition welcomed 73 entries all of whom submitted their interpretation of the role played by the Post in today's world. The submissions varied enormously with interpretations ranging from a more conservative idea of the Post to others which were more liberal and artistic in content.
Interested parties were invited to follow MaltaPost's Facebook page and submit their entry by uploading them on the page's application.
The shortlisted participants whose entries are exhibited are as follows:
‘Message in a Bottle' - Kyle Vella (Placed First)
‘Inbox' - Daniel Calleja (Placed Second)
‘Via Air Mail' - Joseph Camilleri (Placed Third)
‘Professionally Handled' - Massimo Cassar
‘On its way' - Jonathan Borg
‘To my Future' - Jonathan Borg
‘It-Timbru' - Joseph Camilleri
‘Truck in Floriana' - Fritz Grimm
‘No Permission to Paint' - Saviour Brincat
Prizes included ‘The Grandmaster's Collection' - a limited edition of 28 pure silver foil stamps and Silver Replica Ingots depicting the painter Mattia Preti. The competition was also supported by Avantech - the distributor of Canon photographic equipment in Malta who presented the top three entries with vouchers.
At the award giving ceremony, MaltaPost's Chief Commercial Officer Mark Vella expressed his satisfaction that this activity served to connect with the public and raised greater awareness of the crucial role played by the Post today. "MaltaPost today continues to connect people, communities and businesses both nationally and globally. In today's fast paced world, a high quality performance combined with a cost effectiveness and consumer involvement is essential to meet the needs of our
customers and will continue to be a mainstay for our organisation" he explained. Mr Vella also thanked the competition participants as well Avantech for its support. Director Harold Felice, on behalf of Avantech said "We recognise and acknowledge the vital link that the Post provides for so many of us and are delighted to lend our support to a project that seeks to
encourage and promote awareness of this role through art".
Lara Bugeja, the Curator of the Postal Museum explained that "We are very pleased to display both the short-listed and winning photographic entries at the recently launched Postal Museum; a museum which also serves as a creative arts hub to promote local talent."
It is MaltaPost's intent that this photographic competition will be a regular event.
