Head of Health and Safety

The Head of Health and Safety will be responsible for overseeing all function related issues and is expected to help embed a pro-active/ preventative approach. S/he will offer actionable recommendations that will ensure adherence to legal impositions and lead to effective mitigation towards occupational health and safety risks.

To do this, amongst others, the job holder will be expected to:

• Manage the Health and Safety plan as a basis for a management system;
• Actively lead Health and Safety Risk Assessments, recommend workable solutions for risk reduction and follow up on risk mitigation measures;
• Ensure that routines for regular maintenance / inspection of equipment are upheld;
• Participate in/ design / co-ordinate training of Health and Safety related topics;
• Conduct Health and Safety related audits;
• Draw up relevant reports and to maintain a library with legislative/ standards/ best practice documentation;
• Maintain overall control of relevant data/ records/ evidence.

Ideal candidates would:

• Have a number of years experience in a Health and Safety management position and be experienced in office administration relative to the function;
• Hold a University Diploma in Health and Safety, or equivalent. Applicants meeting the criteria for a Registered Competent Person with OHSA are preferred;
• Have good computing skills especially in MS Excel and an ability to understand/ deal with numbers;
• Be a good communicator and able to influence across all spheres of the organisation.
