Head of Legal

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, Head of Legal will be responsible for providing legal advice on a range of matters. To do so the job holder will be expected to work directly with different departments particularly other Heads and Chief Officers.
The incumbent will also manage the relationships and co-ordinate specialist external legal advice and will be expected to represent the company in tribunals and courts of law.

The role, therefore, necessitates that the Head of Legal:

  1. Consults all levels of the organisation on legal matters and provides both advice and possible options to arising situations;
  2. Remains abreast of local and applicable international legal regulations and to updates management;
  3. Researches legislation & regulation and case law;
  4. Adopts a business-friendly approach and timely advice;
  5. Represents the company in tribunals, courts of law demonstrating strong litigation skills;
  6. Has the required standing to network effectively in support of the business;
  7. Vets & reviews all contracts.

The successful candidate would:

  • Hold a Legal Warrant to practice in Malta and have good knowledge of Malta's (and other common law jurisdictions) legislation;
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Maltese;
  • Have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software suites;
  • Have strong negotiation and analytical skills. The ability to understand accounting procedures and interpret financial statements would be an asset;
  • Have an affinity to communicate at all levels of the organisation.
