Commemorating Forty Years of Diplomatic Relations between Malta and China

MaltaPost has issued a personalised stamp/cover to commemorate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malta and the People's Republic of China.

In January 1972 Malta and the People's Republic of China established diplomatic relations, making Malta one of the first Western European countries to recognise China following its membership of the United Nations.

The personalised stamp and cover bears a €0.37 stamp from the "Occasions" Issue, with a se-tenant label showing the official emblems of the two countries. The stamp was cancelled on the 31st January 2012 at the embassy of Malta in Beijing and postmarked: "MALTA-CHINA 40 YEARS OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS - EMBASSY OF MALTA - BEIJING 31-01-12". The cover also bears a China stamp and cancellation date mark.

Together with this item, the MaltaPost Philatelic Bureau will also have available a limited edition of covers issued by the Chinese Philatelic Society.
