MaltaPost Commemorates the 150th Anniversary from the Founding

To commemorate the 150th anniversary from the founding of the Red Cross in 1863 by Henry Dunant, MaltaPost will on the 29 October, issue a miniature sheet bearing one stamp. In 1859, Henry Dunant, a young Swiss businessman witnessed the horrors of the Battle of Solferino. In 1863 he joined forces with five other men in Geneva to set up the International Committee for Relief to the Wounded, later to become the International Committee of the Red Cross. Its emblem, a red cross on a white background is the inverse of the Swiss Flag.

The stamp has face value of €4.57. The miniature sheet portrays the image Henry Dunant. 30,000 miniature sheets will be produced. The miniature sheet was designed in house by MaltaPost. The size of the stamp is 48.0mm x 39.5mm with a perforation of 13.9 x 14.0 (comb), while the miniature sheet measures 120mm x 80mm. All stamps have been offset printed on Maltese Crosses watermarked paper by Printex Limited and are available in miniature sheets.

The set "150th Anniversary of the International Red Cross" will be available as from Tuesday 29 October from all Post Offices in Malta and Gozo.
