Euromed 2022 - Maritime Archaeology and Historical Cities of the Mediterranean

MaltaPost has again this year joined members of the Euromed Postal Joint Stamp Project in the issue of a set of stamps bearing a common theme. The theme for 2022 is produced two stamps both related to Gozo.

The stamp on marine archaeology reproduces an image of a shipwreck off the coast of Xlendi Bay, by the University of Malta / Dave Gration Project that took upon the discovery and excavation of the site in 2007 and subsequently explored in 2014. This ancient shipwreck was found to include a 15m long Phoenician trading vessel dating to the 7th century, together with a handsome cache of ceramic amphorae lying partially exposed on the seabed. Given the date of the wreck, the site was considered to be extremely well preserved. In 2014, marine archaeologists used an exploratory submarine with instruments and sensors that provided 3D photogrammetric images.

The second stamp shows a marked departure from the usual depictions of Gozo's Citadel. This portrays the bell tower of the handsome baroque cathedral and surrounding buildings, lit up against a dusky sky, and in the foreground the dry-stone walling so characteristic of the Mediterranean. Typical of a fortified city, the Citadel stands out as Gozo's primary landmark.

The stamps will be issued in a sheet of 10 stamps, each measuring 44mm x 31mm, with a comb perforation 14.0 x 13.09 (comb)and bearing the Maltese Cross watermark. The sheets measure 118mm x 185mm and were produced by Printex Ltd in the offset process. The issue consists of 100,000 of the €0.20c stamp and 30,000 of the €5.50 stamp.

These items will be available from all Post Offices in Malta and Gozo from Monday 11 July 2022. Orders may be placed online at www.maltaphilately.com or by mail from the Philatelic Bureau, MaltaPost p.l.c. 305, Qormi Road, Marsa, MTP 1001; Telephone: 2596 1740, e-mail: info@maltaphilately.com

Ħarġa Filatelika ta' bolli tal-Pustaġġ EUROMED
‘Maritime Archaeology & Historical Cities Of The Mediterranean'

MaltaPost se tipparteċipa f'ħarġa filatelika tal-EuroMed Postal Union bit-tema 'Maritime Archaeology & Historic Cities of the Mediterranean' b'sett ta' żewġ bolol, it-tnejn relati ma' Għawdex.

L-ewwel bolla fuq l-arkeoloġija tal-baħar qegħda turi xbieha tan-nawfraġju li jinsab 'l barra mill-Kosta tal-Bajja tax-Xlendi. L-iskoperta u t-tħaffir tas-sit fl-2007 u sussegwentement esplorat fl-2014 sar mill-Università ta' Malta u Dave Gration Project.  Dan in-nawfraġju antik instab biex jinkludi bastiment tal-kummerċ Feniċju twil 15-il metru li jmur għas-seklu 7, flimkien ma' cache mill-isbah ta' anfori taċ-ċeramika.  Dawn jinsabu parzjalment esposti f'qiegħ il-baħar. Minħabba d-data tat-tifrik, is-sit kien ikkunsidrat bħala ppreservat tajjeb ħafna. Fl-2014, arkeoloġi tal-baħar użaw sottomarin esploratorju bi strumenti u sensuri li pprovdew immaġini fotogrammetriċi 3D.

It-tieni bolla tidher b'rappreżentazzjoni evidenti differenti mir-ritratti tas-soltu taċ-Ċittadella ġewwa Għawdex. Dan juri l-kampnar tal-Katidral Barokk u l-bini tal-madwar imdawwal kontra sema skur u fuq quddiem il-ħitan tal-ġebel niexef tant karatteristika tal-Mediterran. Iċ-Ċittadella tispikka bħala l-punt ta' referenza ewlieni ta' Għawdex tipika ta' belt fortifikata.

Is-sett se jinħareġ f'folji ta' għaxar bolli. Kull bolla hija ta' daqs 44mm x 31mm, b'perforazzjoni ta' 14.0 x 13.09 (comb) u l-folja hija ta' daqs 118mm x 185mm. Il-bolli ġew stampati b'watermark tas-Salib ta' Malta u Printex Limited ipproduċa dan is-sett b'metodu offset. Il-ħarġa tikkonsisti f'100,000 bolla ta' l- €0.20 u 30,000 bolla tal-€5.50.
